Black Patriots of Guilford Courthouse
Join us on Juneteenth for special programs to discuss the service of Black Patriots who fought in the battle. Research confirms the participation of at least 44 Black Patriots at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse.
African American Patriots fought in the ranks of the Continentals and the militia of both North Carolina and Virginia. Many began the war as freedmen, but some fought in return for a promise of freedom from enslavement.
