Description

The Descendant Community Engagement Group is planning its next public meeting at the Dover Public Library from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

As part of the meeting, staff from the Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs (HCA) will share history of the John Dickinson Plantation, as well as information about what it means to be a descendant community. HCA is seeking descendants of those who lived, worked and died at the John Dickinson Plantation in an effort to tell the stories of enslaved, indentured, freedom-seeking and free Black people who have been overlooked in Delaware’s historical accounts.

Utilizing funding in part from a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Henry A. Jordan, M.D., Preservation Excellence Fund, HCA is taking the next step in helping to form a Descendant Community Engagement Group for the John Dickinson Plantation by hosting these meetings.

Anyone interested in potentially becoming a member of the descendent community group, or just learning more about what is happening at the John Dickinson Plantation, is invited to join.

To be added to the mailing list for information about the Descendant Community Engagement Group and to be notified of the public meeting dates, email e-mail us.
