  • Laverine Greyeyes – Renowned Diné pictorial rug weaver
Laverine creates woven rugs that depict landscapes, animals, and people, adding a unique pictorial element to traditional Diné designs, which typically feature geometric patterns. She learned the art of weaving from her mother, Louise Nez, and has continued the tradition of passing down this skill to future generations.
  • Derrick Lamen – Diné weaver
Derrick Lameman, originally from Red Mesa, Arizona, is a proud member of the Tłááschí'í (Red Ochre Cheek People) clan, born into the Bit’ah’nii (Under His Cover People) clan. A Diné rug weaver inspired by his mother’s artistry, Derrick blends cultural tradition with a commitment to land stewardship and community. He is currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Sciences with an emphasis in Management at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.
  • Meet and talk with Laverine and Derrick as they showcase their work at Desert View Watchtower.

  • The Cultural Demonstration program provides an opportunity for park visitors and community members to interact with tribal artisans from Grand Canyon's traditionally associated tribes - and for them to share their history and crafts, along with the skills, knowledge, and efforts involved in creating their craft and art.

  • This series is made possible with grants from Grand Canyon Conservancy.
