Description

Steam is still the preferred method of travel for Mr. and Mrs. Claus and their friends when visiting the Lackawanna Heritage Valley! Rolling into communities along the historic D&H rail line since 1996, the Santa Train is a beloved family tradition that provides families a unique opportunity to embrace the holiday spirit while enjoying the rich, industrious history of our towns.

LHVA and our regional partners are excited for the return of this unique Northeastern Pennsylvania Christmas celebration, bringing Santa and friends to our communities on Saturday, December 3rd!

Santa will arrive at:
  • Carbondale Train Station at 10:30 a.m.;
  • Archbald Train Station, at 11:35 a.m.;
  • Jessup Train Station, at 12:20 p.m.;
  • Olyphant’s Queen City Train Station, at 1:00 p.m.;
  • Dickson City Train Station at 1:45 p.m.; and
  • Steamtown National Historic Site, in Downtown Scranton, at 3:00 p.m.

Families are encouraged to assemble at the train station in each community to welcome Santa as the train pulls into town. At each stop, Santa and his friends will greet all of the children, hearing their lists for special Christmas wishes. After visiting with Santa, families can enjoy refreshments, live entertainment and special activities.

All activities are free, but children are encouraged to share in the gift of giving by bringing along an unwrapped, new toy as part of a collection for Toys for Tots. This element of the event aims to teach children the values of compassion and helping others. These toys will be gifted to other children within the community whose family may be facing a disadvantage.

'Christmas in a Small Town' is sponsored by the Lackawanna Heritage Valley National and State Heritage Area, in partnership with Steamtown National Historic Site, the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad Authority, Community Bank, and Peoples Security Bank & Trust, along with a number of local officials, businesses, organizations and representatives of each of our participating communities.
