Description
Nineteenth century culture deemed that women should have certain roles: as caregivers, mothers, or teachers. Women challenged these traditional roles during the American Civil War, becoming soldiers, nurses, and even spies. Still more changes came in the early 20th century, when women were given the right to vote.
