Shove Off Day: City Point to Juneteenth: The USCT’s Journey
On May 25, 1865, United States Colored Troops (USCT) left City Point traveling to Texas and take part in what we know today as Juneteenth. The National Park Service is partnering with the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation for a special event commemorating “Shove-off Day.”
Program includes:
- Juneteenth flag-raising ceremony performed by United States Colored Troops (USCT) re-enactors.
- Guest speakers highlighting the USCT story.
- Tours of City Point and Appomattox Plantation buildings
