Experience the power of music as a catalyst for freedom, hope, and social change during the Freedom Concert Series, presented by BridgeWell International Cultural Exchange in partnership with Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park.
Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vision of the Beloved Community, this free concert series celebrates the rich musical traditions of cultures from around the world through live performances that foster connection, understanding, and shared humanity.
Explore the Story Behind the Music
Before or after the concert, visit the park's Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) Exhibit, where visitors can discover how music became an essential force in the American Civil Rights Movement. The exhibit explores the role of Freedom Songs—many rooted in spirituals, gospel, and folk traditions—as they united demonstrators, strengthened courage, communicated messages of hope, and inspired collective action during sit-ins, voter registration drives, marches, and mass meetings.
Freedom songs were more than performances—they were expressions of resilience and nonviolent resistance. The Freedom Concert Series continues this legacy by demonstrating how music transcends cultures, builds community, and amplifies the universal pursuit of justice and human dignity.
Visitors are encouraged to experience both the concert and the exhibit to gain a deeper appreciation of music's enduring role in movements for freedom around the world.
