Concert at the Park: Arcadia Dance Orchestra

Ulysses S Grant National Historic Site

  • Free

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a free concert on the lawn in front of the house, featuring the Arcadia Dance Orchestra.

The Arcadia Dance Orchestra is an 11-piece St. Louis band, led by bandleader T.J. Muller. Named after the once famous Arcadia Ballroom ("On Olive, near Grand"), The Arcadia Dance Orchestra specializes in recreating the music of St. Louis’ ‘Roaring Twenties’. The group consists of 11 musicians playing era correct instruments, from a beautiful 1920’s drum set, to saxophones, cornets, banjo and more! Each musician employs techniques of playing and soloing carefully studied from 1920’s and 1930’s recordings.

For the performance at Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, the Orchestra will feature music arranged and composed by African Americans, specifically spotlighting St. Louis African American Jazz musicians of the 1920s and 30s.

Audiences will feel as though they have stepped back in time as this group brings the music of speakeasies and dance halls back to life, with red hot energy and keen historical accuracy.
