Meet the Fighting American Zouves
The 8th Missouri Infantry was organized in St. Louis in 1861. The uniform chosen by the regiment was that of the American Zouves, featuring a brightly colored uniform patterned after the French army light infantry corps.
Join these historians as they discuss the 8th Missouri Infantry, their weapons and uniforms, and their gallant actions during the 1862 Battle of Fort Donelson. Historic weapons demonstrations, each lasting about 30 minutes in duration, begin at noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. There are no program fees.
As a special bonus, Brigadier General Ulysses S. Grant will appear in the camp, throughout the day, to visit the soldiers of the 8th Missouri and park visitors. General Grant will move to the Dover Hotel (Surrender House, Tour Stop #10) from 3 pm - 5 pm.
