Ranger-led Cave Hike & Tour

Coronado National Memorial

Special Event
  • Every week on Saturday at 10:00 AM from February 01, 2025 to February 22, 2025
  • Free

This February is for Cavers at Coronado National Memorial!

Ranger guided hikes are free of charge and are a great way to learn more about the rich cultural and natural history of the park. This 2 hour tour is a moderately strenous hike into an amazing, undeveloped cave.

You'll be hiking a 1/2 mile and up, up, up 500 feet. Then you will scramble down 25 feet to the cave floor. So, bring layers of 🧣clothing, really good shoes or🥾 boots, and plenty of water🫗. We will provide a ⛑helmet, 🧤gloves, and 💡headlamp (which you must carry up and wear in the cave).

Coronado cave is a natural limestone cave that displays the geologic, hydrologic, and biologic history of this region. The cave interior extends 600 feet in length, with 20-foot ceilings and several crawlways and short passages. Exposed in the beam of a flashlight or headlamp, beautiful formations, such as stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, and helictites, each formed by calcite deposits, emerge from the darkness of the cave.
