Just 24 Hours
Vicksburg is the key Lincoln said, the key that would unlock the Mississippi River for the North, the key that would lock away the resources of the west to the Confederacy. Numerous naval engagements that had resulted in the loss of three Ironclads, a winters worth of work in the swamps that had amounted to nothing five major land battles and two bloody assaults thousands of men in blue and gray dead or dying an now 47 days of siege and counting.
Then a white flag appears on the hill and in Just 24 hours the longest and most complex campaign of the Civil War was over.
Join the Vicksburg National Military Park and the Friends of Vicksburg for a dramatic portrayal of the events that ended the Siege of Vicksburg. Featuring Ulysses S. Grant (portrayed by Dr. Curt Fields) and John C. Pemberton (portrayed by Morgan Gates)
