Description
National Public Lands Day, September 24, is a fee-free day!
This is a day that inspires environmental stewardship and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits. It's also a day to commemorate the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a program established to create opportunities for employment following the Great Depression -- including opportunities in Shenandoah National Park!
Check out a list of programs for Saturday below!
The visitor center at Big Meadows (mile 51):
11:00 am - Special Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Walk - Learn the ABCs of the CCC boys in this 1-hour easy walking tour. Meet at the visitor center and it’s a short walk across Skyline Drive.
1:30 pm - Porch Talk - Join the daughter of a former Civilian Conservation Corps enrollee and NPLD champion, Colette Silvestri, to hear special stories of the “boys” who built Shenandoah National Park!
12:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Visitors can stop by the outdoor information tables that will be set up outside the visitor center. At one table, come learn about the work of the Appalachian Conservation Corps. At another table, learn from a ranger what citizen science means and how you can be involved as you explore Shenandoah National Park!
Dickey Ridge Visitor Center (mile 4.6):
11:00 am - Porch Talk - Enjoy learning about the importance of our Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and their connection to National Public Lands in this short talk.
10:00 am - 2:00 pm - Visitors can stop by the outdoor information table that will be set up outside the visitor center to learn from a ranger what citizen science means and how you can be involved as you explore Shenandoah National Park!
