Description

Please note: Due to the rain and high winds forecasted for Saturday, February 2, 2019, we will be cancelling the Ninth Annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids (CBC4Kids). While we are very disappointed to cancel one of our favorite events, participant safety is our number one priority, and we feel that Saturday's forecast prevents us from ensuring that everyone has a safe and enjoyable outing. Additionally, one of our primary goals with this event is to get kids excited about birding—and windy, wet weather can make birding quite difficult—and especially frustrating—for children.

The 2019 Christmas Bird Count for Kids (CBC4Kids) was originally scheduled to be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019, but was postponed due to the partial government shutdown. It has been rescheduled to be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, but, due to inclement weather, has since been cancelled..

In honor and memory of Richard Stallcup, a mentor to generations of birders, the National Park Service, in collaboration with the Point Reyes National Seashore Association (PRNSA) and Sonoma Birding invite families with children ages 3–18 to the Ninth annual Point Reyes Christmas Bird Count for Kids (CBC4Kids) on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Point Reyes National Seashore. Gather your fledglings for this celebration of nature, parks, education, and outdoor family fun. The event brings together all the basic elements of birding to introduce the next generation of stewards to the importance of birds in the ecosystem and the annual tradition of bird counts. The park is an ideal location for birding with 490 bird species or 54% of all North American birds recorded here, which also make it a perfect outdoor classroom for you and your brood to learn more about the fascinating world of birds. Naturalists will lead groups into a number of field locations to identify and count birds.
