Special Event
Aztec Ruins National Monument will host the annual Evening of Lights holiday display. This event celebrates New Mexico traditions with hundreds of luminarias while illuminating the Aztec West great house with LED lanterns. The lantern display is a one-night-only event and a time to experience Aztec West in a new light.
To experience this event, arrive anytime from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. This event is free and open to the public. Visitors can walk along the paved trail into the central plaza to view the archaeological site illuminated by the soft glow of lantern light. Photography is welcome. Extra warm clothing and flashlights are recommended.
The Evening of Lights is the opening event for the Aztec Sparkles weekend each year, and it will occur on the same night as the Aztec RiverGlo event (at nearby Riverside Park).
Parking can be a challenge during this event, so look for our friendly parking crew to point the way. Be prepared to walk in some areas that are dark - flashlights are recommended. In the event that parking is completely full, consider parking nearby, near the Old Spanish Trail bridge (1/2 mile walk) or at Riverside Park (1.2 mile walk).
