Description

Condor Street Urban Wilds City Nature Challenge

Want to upgrade your naturalist skills? Join the National Park Service and Boston Urban Wilds Program for the 2023 City Nature Challenge. A friendly competition between cities all over the world to connect us to the nature that is all around us. We will make observations of nature, document as many species as we can, and engage YOU in helping us do it!

Join us Sunday April 30 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm for the 2023 City Nature Challenge (CNC)!  We will be exploring the Condor Street Urban Wilds, which offers a salt marsh, meadow grasses, and other coastal habitats. Last year 445 cities across the world participated in the worldwide event, observing over 50 thousand species! This information helps us understand the wildlife and plants that we share our cities with.

To help us gather this data, we will be using the iNaturalist app. We recommend you download the iNaturalist application and create an account prior to your arrival. There will be iNaturalist tutorials happening at 1:30pm and 2:30pm. Alternatively, you can consider bringing your own camera to take pictures in the field and then upload them to the iNaturalist website when you return to your home computer! Consider joining the 2023 City Nature Challenge: Boston Area project on iNaturalist to follow along with our progress throughout the weekend!

No registration is required, you can drop in and out at any time between 1:00pm and 4:00pm

What to bring:

A cellphone or tablet with iNaturalist downloaded. Snacks and plenty of water in a reusable water bottle. Sunscreen and a hat are always recommended. We also recommend coming with sturdy and/or waterproof shoes to explore the area. Wear clothing that feels comfortable and is appropriate for the weather.
