Description

Biscayne National Park's Park After Dark series will soon be welcoming back two of its most popular events. Songs and Stories of Our National Parks will return on February 17, and the Biscayne Story Slam returns on March 16. Both events take place at 7:00 pm on the front lawn of the Dante Fascell Visitor Center, 9700 SW 328 Street, nine miles east of Homestead. The events are free and open to all. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets, as well as a picnic dinner. There will be a campfire, s'mores, and telescopes.

The Biscayne National Park Story Slam is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to share a true, personal five-minute story with an audience of fellow story-lovers. Hosted by Gaby Fernandez Sanchez, this year's theme for the slam is Animal Tales.

(PS: We're looking for stories about that time the raccoon stole your marshmallows, the bear surprised you at your campsite, or the shark swam past while you were snorkeling. How about the time the bird landed on your head, the time the mosquitos were so thick they made you sneeze, or the time you saw a fox faceplant in the snow while hunting for its dinner. For those feeling a bit more domestic, share a story about riding a horse on a beach, finding the perfect cat at the shelter, or the cockroach that forced you to move out! Ten storytellers will be chosen to tell a true, personal story, live and without notes, by the campfire. The three top tellers will receive boat trips courtesy of the Biscayne National Park Institute! Summarize your story in 50 words or less and text it to our pitch-line at 305-338-6584! Deadline for pitches is March 1, 2023.)

This event is made possible through the generous support of The Alliance for Florida's National Parks.
