National Public Lands Day Volunteer Projects

Get Involved

The day will begin at 8:30 AM with some words of welcome from Valley Forge Superintendent Rose Fennell, then participants will meet with the park staff serving as their onsite project leaders. Project work will take place for about 3 hours, from approximately 9 AM to noon.

Spaces are limited and volunteers must pre-register. Walk-ons will not be accepted.

Please be ready to provide the number of people in your group and which project you want to work on.

Additional safety and logistical information will be provided to the final list of registrants.

Volunteer Work Projects


Trail Maintenance - 15 positions

Looking for a group/family friendly activity?

Volunteers will use wheel barrows, shovels, and rakes to transport and spread wood chips across a section of trail near the popular Varnum's picnic area. (Moderately strenuous work)


Culvert Cleanout - 5 positions

Looking for a workout?

Volunteers will use wheel barrows, shovels, and other common handtools to life, carry, and remove rocks, vegetation, and other debris from a culvert near a well used trail at Mt. Misery/Yellow Springs. (Strenuous work on uneven ground)


Fence Replacement - 40 positions

Do you like building things?

Volunteers will lift, carry, and maneuver sections of fence near a highly used picnic area at Wayne's Woods. (Moderately strenuous work)


Weed Warriors - 30 positions

Do you want to help protect the park's natural habitats?

Volunteers will use loppers, hand pruners, and other common handtools to cut, pull, and remove invasive plants. (Moderately strenuous work)
