Description

In the 1960's and 70's, Melnea Cass was at the forefront of the fight for civil rights and school integration for the African-American community of Boston. By that time she was the “elder stateswoman of Roxbury,” never elected to public office but a widely known and well liked community activist who by that point had spent decades of her life fighting for the cause of civil rights, both before and after the Civil Rights Movement. Join us as we discuss the nature of community activism, the life of Melnea Cass, and the influence of her mother-in-law Rosa Brown in her journey as a community activist.
