A Virtual Program
The first presidential election in American history took place from
December 15th 1788 to January 10th 1789.
There were 12 candidates; 69 Electoral votes and each Elector had 2 votes!
One of these votes had to be for someone outside of their state.
So no playing favorites!
Each State decided how their elections were conducted in accordance with the Constitution.
