Description
Moores Creek National Battlefield will be holding a Military Through the Ages Event on Saturday May 23. This event will be a little different as it will not be held onsite. This event will be completely virtual, via Facebook Live, on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/moorescreeknps).
Beginning at 10:00 am, rangers and volunteers from Moores Creek, as well as other National Park sites across the country, will be presenting a timeline of US military weapons beginning with the matchlock and going all the way to more modern 20th century weapons.
In between, several other living history demonstrations will be featured virtually, including cooking an 18th century recipe in a modern kitchen, as well as making an 18th century toy using 21st century equipment.
The schedule for the day is:
10:00 am – Opening video and demonstration of a matchlock musket with DeSoto National Memorial
10:20 am - Uniforms of the American Revolution with Ninety Six National Historic Site
11:00 am – 18th century muskets, rifles, and music with Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, Moores Creek National Battlefield, Cowpens National Battlefield, George Rogers Clark National Historical Park, and Minuteman National Historical Park
12:00 pm – Civilian demonstrations – These will include cooking, making toys, a laundry demonstration, musket cartridge rolling, and more. These will be conducted by Moores Creek Volunteers and Staff.
1:00 pm – 19th century muskets and artillery – The hour will begin in the War of 1812-era, followed by the Mexican-American War era, and end with demonstrations of Civil War-era muskets and artillery. With Fort Necessity National Battlefield/Friendship Hill National Historic Site, Fort Smith National Historic Site, Fort Pulaski National Monument, Shiloh National Military Park, Stones River National Battlefield, and Fort Larned National Historic Site
2:00 pm – 20th century weaponry with Harper's Ferry National Historical Park.
Even if you are not able to join us live, all of the videos will still appear on the park’s Facebook page and will be uploaded to our YouTube Channel! We will also post video content to the park website (www.nps.gov/mocr) after the event for viewing!
Event information will also be posted on our park website. Stay tuned for more details!
We hope you’ll join us “virtually” on May 23!
