Join our partners at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park as they commemorate the gathering of the Overmountain Men! On September 25, 1780, nearly 1,000 frontiersmen from what is now Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia gathered at Sycamore Shoals on the Watauga River to begin their rapid march to intercept British Major Patrick Ferguson and his Loyalist army.

Location

Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Programming will take place mostly within the recreated "Fort Watauga" behind the Visitor Center, and at the river crossing located along the gravel path in the woods behind the fort.

Event runs 10am to 4pm both days, with the recreation of the river crossing at 2pm on Sunday, September 25th. The OVTA story "The March to Kings Mountain" will take place Sunday afternoon shortly following the river crossing.
