Description

On Saturday, August 27th, Pipestone National Monument will celebrate Founders Day! While most national parks celebrate the founding of the National Park Service (August 25, 1916), here at Pipestone we also celebrate the cultures of the original founders of the Pipestone quarries. It’s set to be a packed day:

9:30-11:30   Quarrying Demonstration

12:00-1:00   Horse Regalia Program by Dakota Wicohan

12:00           Complimentary Refreshments (while supplies last)

1:00-4:00     Activity Stations:

  • Make Your Own Atlatl (target practice included!)
  • Wasna-making Station (try traditional foods)
  • Make-and-Take Art (ledger art, coloring, origami bison)
  • Traditional Flute Music (listen to the music and stories of Bruce Weigle)

This event is free and open to the public.
