Description
By most accounts, the Battle of Stones River began on the morning of December 31, 1862. That was not the case for the soldiers in blue and gray on the southern end of the battlefield where intense fighting raged throughout December 30, 1862, as the U.S. Army of the Cumberland's Right Wing pushed its way into position. That fighting shaped the events of the next three days ending in one of the most important Union victories of the war.
