The Thompson Island Ferry will leave from the EDIC dock in South Boston at 10am. It will leave Thompson Island at 3pm.
Description
Take a free ferry from South Boston to Thompson Island on weekend days in October!
This public access opportunity is part of the conservation agreement among Thompson Island Outward bound, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and the National Parks of Boston.
Visitors will be able to enjoy all of the natural areas of the island, and will have access to restrooms. Access to the educational campus and ropes course areas is strictly prohibited.
On Saturdays, join an NPS ranger for a naturalist walk of island habitats.

Trip Information:
A dedicated ferry will depart from the EDIC dock in South Boston at 10:00am, and depart the island at 3:00pm on each weekend day.
Each UPA ferry will have up to 20 UPA spots available for registration through Eventbrite.
NOTE: Trips will be cancelled if there are no registrations by 48 hours prior to departures (10 a.m. Thursday for Saturday trips, 10 a.m. Friday for Sunday trips).
Trips may also be cancelled if bad weather conditions are expected – registrants will receive an email if a trip is cancelled.
Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
COVID Safety Procedures:
- Prior to boarding the ferry guests will have to complete a “Clear to Go” COVID symptoms/exposure survey on their phone at the dock, and
- Guests 12+ will be asked to show their vaccine card or a photo of their vaccine card, and guests 18+ will be asked to provide a form of identification to confirm the accuracy of their COVID vaccination and “Clear to Go” survey status.
- Masks will be required at all times on the ferry, while on the Thompson Island pier, during the orientation by a Thompson Island staff member when first arriving on island, and when using the restrooms on Thompson Island.
On-Island Information:
- Visitors will be greeted by a member of the TIOBEC staff and will have a contact phone number in case of emergency. Directional and informational signage will also be available.
- No alcohol or drugs
- No pets
