Treasure in the Southwest- What we seek, what we find

Petroglyph National Monument

The story of New Mexico began with a treasure hunt—Coronado’s search for the golden cities of Cibola—and treasure-hunting continues today, for the Lost Adams Diggings, the Victorio Peak Gold, the Lost Dutchman Mine, and many more.  Speaker Bob Julyan doesn’t offer clues to these treasures’ locations, he does offer a lively, fun discussion of this fascinating aspect of southwestern culture.  And he loves to tell the stories behind the legends and answer questions.

Bob is an Albuquerque-based writer and lecturer specializing in New Mexico's human and natural history.  His Place Names of New Mexico is the standard reference for the state’s names, including many associated with treasure tales. His talks have been well-received throughout the state for their enthusiasm and humor.

This presentation will take place outdoors on the Information Center patio. Bench seating is available and is on a first-come, first-seated basis. You are welcome to bring a cushion or your own chair. The patio is covered with shade sails. Bring water.
