Description

During Labor Day weekend on September 4th, 5th, and 6th, join us for ranger-guided presentations about the labor performed by the people who practiced the Hopewell culture. The following presentations will be available throughout the day, weathering permitting, and cover a broad range of topics:

Begin with the "Tools of the Trade" at 9:30 AM. The people of the Hopewell Culture used bone, stone, and wood tools. With these they were able to accomplish great feats.

"Home Economics" and the labor process of constructing goods for the home at 11:30 AM. Shirts, baskets, and clay pots were used to carry, cook, and keep people warm 2000 years ago. This was a labor intensive process that takes a lot to master.

How people recovered calories with "Hopewell Lunch" at 1:30 PM. Making the mounds among other things takes a lot of calories. Learn how the food they grew like squash, Chenopodium, and sunflowers helped replenish them.

"Mound building" at 3:30PM. The Hopewell Culture built these mounds 30lbs at a time. What would drive you to accomplish such a feat?

Come for all or join us for one!
