Description
This year to celebrate Flag Day, our Museum Curator, Jeff Patrick, will be bringing out some flags from our museum storage for public viewing. The museum collection includes flags from various regiments who fought during the Civil War in the Trans-Mississippi theater. Many of our flags have survived to this day and have undergone conservation to be mounted and framed, while others have only survived in small remnants. We will have two examples of the Confederate 1st National Flag, the Turner Battalion flag from Companies A, B, and C of the 1st Regiment Missouri Volunteers, and fragments from the 24th Missouri Regimental flag. These flags are key parts in telling the stories of the many battles and soldiers involved in them. Our museum staff considers our flags to be some of the most important pieces in our collection.
