Description
In collaboration with Los Alamos Science Fest, Valles Caldera National Preserve is thrilled to offer a guided geology tour across the Jemez Mountains. The tour will be led by Dr. Nelia Dunbar (New Mexico State Geologist Emerita), Dr. Bill McIntosh (NMT Emeritus Volcanologist/Geochronologist), and Dr. Bill Sayre (NPS volunteer; Institute of American Indian Arts, retired). Participants will explore the fascinating geology of the Jemez Volcanic Field area, starting at the White Rock Canyon overlook and ending in the quaint village of Jemez Springs, where geothermal springs are heated by the volcano. Participants will drive their own vehicles to each tour stop for a total of ~50 miles each way. For effective tour management and environmental sustainability, we encourage participants to carpool as much as safely possible.
30 spots available.
