Description

Women's Rights National Historical Park will host the Albany Symphony and the Rochester Oratorio Society for a "Music in Your Park" event on May 18, 2019, 1-4 p.m. in the Wesleyan Chapel. Free and open to the public, performances will include Resonaz choir and IAMIAMIAM!, an opera quartet.

Event Schedule

1:00 p.m. : Resonanz Vocal Ensemble

Resonanz Vocal Ensemble looks ahead to the Centennial of Women's Suffrage with a suite of Suffragist anthems that compelled a nation to action, newly restored and arranged from century-old sources by Eastman School of Music faculty member and pianist Jeannie Guerrero. The program also contains a stirring musical profile of Suffrage pioneer and Underground Railroad conductor, Harriet Tubman, by Robert DeCormier, the longtime arranger for Peter, Paul and Mary, and "I'm Told I'm A Citizen," from Mrs. President, by New York composer Victoria Bond. Eric Townell conducts. Resonanz, the touring ensemble of the Rochester Oratorio Society, performs for public celebrations, library concerts, school assemblies, private engagements and collaborations with leading arts organizations across Western New York. Resonanz will perform at 1 p.m.

2:00 p.m. : Orientation Tour

At 2 p.m. the park will present a ranger-led Orientation Talk in the Chapel discussing the park and its various properties, the societal shifts that led to the 1848 Convention, the relationships among the organizers, and the importance of place and time at the start of the suffrage movement.

3:00 p.m. : I AM I AM I AM

I AM I AM I AM is brought to us by the Albany Symphony. I AM I AM I AM is a collective dedicated to examining traditional gender norms and roles and addressing the ways in which society and specifically classical music perpetuate stale stereotypes about the place of women in the twenty-first century. They strive to celebrate the autonomy of the female body and being, shedding light on the role of women in our industry and society at large. I AM I AM I AM will perform at 3 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public.
