Description
Living history performer Kathryn Harris presents Elizabeth Keckley, formerly enslaved, sewed dresses for wealthy women in St. Louis who loaned her money to purchase her freedom. Within a few years Keckley was employed by President Lincoln’s wife as her seamstress and close confidante. This program is offered in conjunction with the Slavery in St. Louis exhibit.
