During the Great Depression, the Federal Writers Project was created to hire unemployed writers. They created three types of collections: the Travel Guide Series (states & cities), The Slave Narratives, and the "These Are Our Lives" series.Their aim was to capture folklore, culture, and historical stories that were being lost as a result of progress. Additionally, they wanted to create a tour guide for the states and cities.

Join rangers to learn about and view some of the books produced by the Federal Writers Project and to contribute to discussion questions.
