Ranger Guided History Hike from Fort Ethan Allen to Chain Bridge and along Pimmit Run

This two and a half hour guided hike starts in the parking lot of the Madison Community Center which is adjacent to the remains of Fort Ethan Allen. After exploring and learning about what was one of the largest forts that once circled Washington DC, hikers will walk through the neighborhood and down the hill to Chain Bridge to discover the historical significance of the bridge, Little Falls and the Patomack Canal. Next, hikers will uncover the history surrounding Pimmit Run, a scenic stream they walk along as they head towards Fort Marcy.

There is a significant elevation change in the course of this challenging hike. Long sections of unpaved trail are uneven with rocks and tree roots. Wear long pants to guard against poison ivy. This hike is for physically fit walkers with good balance.
