Description
Can the service and sacrifice of combat be a path to citizenship in a nation that denied African Americans a role in our democracy? African American men who enlisted in the 54th Massachusetts Regiment believed and hoped fighting for the U.S. Army would earn them respect and equality. Service in the military continued to be a path to the full rights of citizenship in the post-war era for the Buffalo Soldiers.
Our presenters will be: Steve Phan, Camp Nelson National Monument and Will Watson, National Parks of Boston

Twice per month the National Parks of Boston presents Connections and Conversations. Explore local history from home and away. Compare stories across time, distance and perspective. Exchange ideas and ask questions of park rangers and public historians.
Each program will include two presentations, followed by ample time for questions and answers with both presenters. Connections and Conversations will take place the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM (Eastern Time) live via WebEx.
