Description

Join National Park Service Naturalist Jerry Hightower for a wonderful early summer walk on the Lontra loop trail through a beautiful floodplain bottomland forest as we loop around the narrow floodplain. This is an excellent area for viewing wildlife. We will meander back along the river and look for spring wildflowers, ferns, and shrubs. We might catch a glimpse of an Osprey or a Great Blue Heron. Along the trail we will search for wildlife signs, summer wildflowers, and ferns, so please join us.

Remember to dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking shoes. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and your activity level. You may wish to bring

water, binoculars, hand lens, notebook, and camera. Note: A daily entrance fee or annual pass is required.
