Welcome Spring

Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site

Special Event
  • May 9, 2026 at 10:00 AM
  • Free

Historically, life and industry relied on the land and resources at Hopewell Furnace. These things remain just as important to us today. Join us for a day of activities as we explore what spring has to offer! This event may be modified in the case of inclement weather.

  • Kick off our weeklong charcoal burn at 11:00 am and learn how the woods around Hopewell Furnace turned into its success.
  • See how a furnace can take natural resources and transform them into something new during our aluminum casting demonstrations at 11:30 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm.
  • Meet our new sheep and see them sheared to prepare for summer! Sheep shearing at 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, and 2:30 pm.
  • Get to know our chickens and steer. Learn how animals like these improve life now and then.
  • Join a 20-minute ranger program, Building Hopewell: An Interactive Map, to see the story of Hopewell Furnace unfold at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 4:00 pm.
  • Learn about our gardens and spring planting from our volunteer Master Gardeners.
  • Check out how things used at Hopewell Furnace can be turned into art and paint your own watercolor masterpiece.
  • See wool transform through spinning, weaving, and dyeing demonstrations.
