Description

This special topic program by park historian Nick Sacco discusses the history of the holiday of Thanksgiving during the Civil War, including the decisionsby President Lincoln to issue a "Proclamation of Thanksgiving" amidst a raging Civil War, on October 3, 1963, 74 years to the day after President George Washington issued his first presidential Thanksgiving proclamation. The program will take place in the theater in the Visitor Center.
