National Public Lands Day- Prairie Restoration

Help us take care of “Our Home Outdoors” on National Public Lands Day Saturday, September 26th! The first 50 volunteers will get a free one-day entry pass to federal public lands, valid for up to one year after the event.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. This year’s theme is “Our Home Outdoors,” highlighting how public lands are woven into our daily lives, and how the responsibility of caring for them brings us together.

• On Saturday, September 26th, we’ll meet promptly at 9 a.m. at the visitor center, and finish at 1 p.m., maybe longer. Join us for as long as you can.
• Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive and exotic woody plants from the tallgrass prairie. This includes sumac and walnut saplings, and blackberry bushes.
• Tools, gloves, and other equipment will be provided by the park; participants should wear closed-toe shoes and layered clothing. Please bring sunscreen and insect spray.
• Kids under 12 must stay with their parents and pets are not allowed.
• Entry is free to all National Parks on Public Lands Day, September 26th, 2026.
