Description
Join the park’s newest Artist-in-Residence, Beth Jones, to talk about cabinets of curiosities and learn about her storytelling initiative – New Bedford in the Palm of Your Hand – which will be a collection of tales about our own precious belongings and their connections to New Bedford.
Cabinets of Curiosities served as the foundation for modern museums and made the mysterious tangible. By the 19th century, “curiosities” (exotic plants, birds, bones, textiles, etc.), were often collected by whalers, who were among the few voyageurs traveling to Earth’s most remote corners.
