Description

After the Civil War, many Union veterans joined the Grand Army of the Republic, the nation’s first large-scale veterans’ organization (and forerunner of such groups as the American Legion, VFW, etc.).  What was the philosophy behind the GAR?  How did it influence Civil War remembrance?  How did it become a political force?  This talk will answer these questions and more!  This is an encore presentation of a program originally presented in 2017.  SPEAKER: Todd Arrington, James A. Garfield NHS.
