Join a Parkway Ranger at the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center, milepost 384 to explore odd illnesses and even odder remedies. From turpentine to axes under the bed, we’ll examine how & why certain traditional medicines developed in the Southern Appalachians and ask ourselves: “What might I resort to if the closest hospital was days away?” And remember: no matter how loyal and loving a pet may be, your chihuahua won’t cure phthisic.
