Help us welcome Rocky's current Artist-in-Residence, Alexandra Bassett.
ย
Alexandra Bassett moves through the world with the eye of an artist and the mind of a scientist. Alexandraโ€™s work asks viewers to elevate whatโ€™s below them and turn towards the quiet universe of lichen, moss, fungi, and cryptobiotic soil living at our feet.
ย
She calls it the โ€œmicrolandscapeโ€ and has been lovingly devoted to it since earning her degree in Visual Arts. Her work explores the force that bends towards order and structure in a world that concurrently bends towards entropy.
ย
Alexandra will be offering a hands-on program at Fall River Visitor Center on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
ย
During the program ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ, participants will learn about how mosses, mushrooms, and lichens move in slow, silent rhythms, nourishing the soil and the air and the life that depends on them.
ย
During this activity, participants will be invited to pause and truly look, borrowing stencils or studying photographs of these silent organisms before capturing their outlines in water-soluble pastels.
ย
This is an interactive and drop-in style program. Participants are invited to come when they can and stay as long as they like. All art supplies will be provided.
This program is free. No prior knowledge or experience is needed to participate.
ย
