Description

Alpine tundra is both resilient and fragile. Join a park ranger for a Citizen Science Opportunity as you "Explore Science at the Edge of the Sky." During this program, participants will enjoy a journey in the land above trees where storytelling meets science and citizen science connects participants to this vital ecosystem.

This program is 60-90 minutes long. Participants will meet your ranger guide at the Tundra Communities Trailhead at Rock Cut, located inside RMNP on Trail Ridge Road approximately 18 miles west of Estes Park and Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and approximately 25 miles east of Grand Lake and Kawuneeche Visitor Center.

Be prepared to be outside in an area above treeline. We will be taking short walks and exploring the wonders of the alpine tundra.

This program is free and great for visitors of all ages. A timed entry reservation is required to enter RMNP between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Don't have a timed entry? Remember - you can enter the park before 9 a.m. and take a drive on Trail Ridge Road. Give yourself plenty of time to arrive early. Park entrance fees are required.

Things to Bring With You:

🌧️ Dress for Success - Temperatures and weather above treeline can vary and can change quickly. For your comfort and safety, dress in layers. A fleece and wind or rain jacket can be helpful.

☀️ Don't forget sun protection - this program will be in an area with full sun exposure and little shade.

💧 Bring water and snacks and remember to stay hydrated. Wear a sun-protective hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.

Thank you to Rocky Mountain Conservancy for their support of programs like this!
