9:30 AM to 4 PM at Muhlenberg’s Brigade, rain or shine
Visit the soldier huts at Muhlenberg’s Brigade to see the Yankee Peas Mess reenactor group portray the 2nd Virginia State Regiment. Watch the unit drill with muskets and learn what it was like to live in camp with the army at Valley Forge.
Please note: All black powder musket demonstrations are weather-dependent.

March with the 2nd Virginia State Regiment — 9:30 AM at the Mini Grand Parade
Join the regiment as they march with music into Muhlenberg’s Brigade. Learn about the challenges they faced at Valley Forge — the regiment was relatively inexperienced when it arrived in May 1778. The Mini Grand Parade is located behind the visitor center. This activity includes a 1/4-mile walk to Muhlenberg’s Brigade.
Camp Life at Muhlenberg’s Brigade — Ongoing until 4 PM
Speak to a reenactor and see what camp life was like for soldiers and civilians supporting the army. Where did people sleep, how did they cook, clean, mend clothes, and care for the sick?
Fife & Drum Music — 10 AM
The regiment’s fifer and drummer will discuss music in the army and play a few tunes from the era.
Learning the Prussian Exercise and Black Powder Demonstrations — 11:10 AM & 2:10 PM
Watch the company learn the new drill and maneuvers as taught by General Steuben. At the end of the drill, weather permitting, the company will perform a volley of musket fire.
Food Rations and Markets at Valley Forge — 12 PM
See different examples of bread produced for the Continental Army and learn about the markets near camp where soldiers and civilians with the army could buy local produce and other items.
Women at the Valley Forge Encampment — 1:10 PM
Learn about the the experiences and contributions of women who followed the Continental Army
and lived among enlisted soldiers duing the encampment at Valley Forge.
Alliance with France and “Feu de Joie” Black Powder Demonstration — 3:10 PM
In early May of 1778, news reached the encampment of a new alliance with France. Watch as the
company is informed of this news and performs a small “feu de joie” musket volley in celebration.
