Description

Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail's Southern Maryland section is home to the Battle of St. George's Island, the largest Revolutionary War battle in Maryland. To celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary, Potomac Heritage is joining the Rebels & Redcoats event at Piney Point Lighthouse Museum and Historic Park to honor the battle that was fought in St. Mary's County.

Come to the Potomac Heritage table at the Rebels & Redcoats event to see how women used needlework and homespun cloth as a way to support the Colonists and the Revolutionary War effort! Demonstrate needlework skills and learn how women prepped fiber to be spun into cloth to boycott British taxation on cloth and textiles.

Experience life in camp for Maryland’s Revolutionary War soldiers and militiamen. Visit their tents, learn about what they wore and carried, join the militia for a rifle drill, and listen to military music. Other exhibits and displays related to local 18th-century history will be on hand, including food, drinks, educational and period programming, kids and family activities, reenactments, period encampments, military demonstrations and much more.
