Description

San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site, located in the important cultural crossroads of San Antonio, Texas, was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2015. Recognized for their interweaving of Spanish, Coahuiltecan and other indigenous cultural elements, the Missions preserve indigenous cultural heritage ranging from architectural features to the acequias which continue to carry water, the lifeblood of the missions.

San Antonio Missions is one of only two World Heritage Sites in the United States related to Hispanic history, culture, and identity and remains alive and relevant with strong community connections. San Antonio Missions National Historical Park manages four of the five missions that, together with the Alamo (Mission Valero), comprise the World Heritage Site and includes the four active church parishes of Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada.

This webinar will showcase the intersecting management perspectives of the National Park Service, Bexar County, the City of San Antonio, and the Catholic Archdiocese, all of which work together to manage this dynamic World Heritage Site and National Park Service unit, located entirely within the seventh largest city in the United States, San Antonio, Texas.

Speakers include Christine Jacobs (Superintendent of San Antonio Missions National Historical Park), Betty Bueché (Director of Heritage and Parks for
Bexar County, Texas - Government), Rebecca Viagran (City Council District 3 City of San Antonio - Municipal Government), and Father David Garcia (Archdiocese of San Antonio.) Learn more at the link below!
