Anna Bernard: Jazz Singer

As a native of South Louisiana Anna Bernard was influenced by the musical styles of the region; from New Orleans Jazz to local Cajun and Creole tunes. She studied music at Delgado College in New Orleans; and  performed in the College Jazz ensemble for two years.  After college she moved to Europe to continue singing. She lived in London where she sang in Jazz clubs and Piano Bars and also worked as a session singer.
She sang a variety of music including Jazz, World Music and Pop. During her five years in Europe she had the opportunity to sing at music venues
in Denmark, Austria, Germany and multiple times in Greece. Europe has a great appreciation for American Jazz and it was a great place to perform and polish her skills.

In 2010 Anna returned home to New Orleans. Shortly after she began performing with The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Rangers. Working with Jazz Park musicians she began to add historic Creole songs to her repertoire and perform them at the New Orleans Jazz Museum.

“I see the music I perform as historic bodies of work and I love to sing songs in their original language. The language is part of the musical composition. Whether its American jazz, Creole, French songs, Boleros or Bossa Nova. To me all of these styles have a relationship in the jazz world and weave together in an interesting way.” - Anna Bernard
