Description

Adams National Historical Park is pleased to announce that we will be co-hosting a free, public program with The United First Parish Church this Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 4pm. Defending Freedom: Honoring the Historic Link Between Quincy and Sierra Leone, which will take place at the church, celebrates Her Excellency, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, who is making her first visit to Quincy. It also examines the complex connection between Sierra Leone and the city of Quincy through the Amistad case of 1841. This event will feature speeches by Dr. Fatima Maada Bio and Minster of the United First Parish Church, Reverend Rebecca Froom.

The spoken portion of the program will last approximately one hour. It will be followed by a light reception in the parish hall. Historic tours of the Adams Crypt, where President John Quincy Adams and First Lady Louisa Catherine Adams, along with President John Adams and First Lady Abigail Adams, are entombed, will be available before and after the spoken program. The United First Parish Church is located at 1306 Hancock Street in Quincy. This event is free, open to the public, and reservations are not necessary. We hope to see you there!
