Women of Valor — The Six Triple Eight

Learn about the role of African American women in the military during World War II. The event will begin with an open house from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. that will allow guests to explore historical items associated with the Women’s Army Corps. Park Rangers will be present, dressed in Women’s Army Corps uniforms, during the open house to answer questions and provide historical knowledge.  At 1 p.m., Edna W. Cummings, a retired Colonel of the U.S. Army and advocate for the Women’s Army Corps unit 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, will discuss the pioneering women of World War II and how their monumental efforts resulted in Congress awarding the 6888th a Congressional Gold Medal.
