Description

New Orleans JAZZ NHP’s Song o’ the Day:

Jambalaya Town

It’s been a long time coming…  An entire year has passed since this date, last year!  That’s right, once again it is May 11th = National Eat What You Want Day = 24 hours in which to imbibe incautiously, deny dietary “do nots” and permit disapproved palatable pleasures.  It says so right there on the calendar at “#NationalEatWhatYouWantDay”.  Even though this last pandemic year has kept many of  us irresistibly close to our kitchen’s bounty, “#EatWhatYouWantDay”, grants us permission to indulge indiscriminately because, well, it’s “#EatWhateverYouWantDay”.

Serenading our sumptuous celebration we’re playing one of the JAZZ Park’s favorite performers, and once-upon-a-time Ranger, himself, Richard “Piano” Scott.  Here he extolls one food for which New Orleans is famous: “Jambalaya”, “a Creole rice dish of West African, French (especially Provençal cuisine), and Spanish influence” (Wikipedia).  Originating from the Spanish dish “Paella”, French, African, and Creole influences gave the dish a new form.  “Pure comfort food filled to the brim with flavour,” says Café DelitesZatarain’s well-seasoned opinion is that jambalaya, like New Orleans, herself,  is “the result of a collision of cultures” and VeeTee.com sums it all up as “cheap, filling and full of flavour”.  So, what are we waiting for…?  It’ll soon turn into the 12th of May!
