Christianity and the War of 1812
River Raisin National Battlefield Park will be offering a series of Ranger-Led Programs this summer. All of these programs will begin and end at the Battlefield’s Visitor Center located at 1403 E. Elm Ave., Monroe, Michigan, 48162. “Christianity and the War of 1812” will be offered for the first time on Sundays from 1-2pm on the following dates: June 30, July 14, July 28, with dates to follow in August.
During this discussion-based program, participants will learn how Christian perspectives affected and impacted the War of 1812, how preachers defended and denounced the war, and how people responded to calamitous events. Throughout the program, Rangers will use both American history and Christian theology to allow participants to have a better understanding of the War of 1812, the Battle of the River Raisin, and American religion.
There is no admission for this program and reservations are not required. Simply stop by the Visitor Center’s front desk a few minutes ahead of time for information regarding the starting location for the program. This ranger-led program will last approximately 30 minutes – 1 hour, including questions for the Ranger after the end of the formal program.
